Vijayanagar Bus Terminus to be moved to Velachery MRTS Station

A proposal has been submitted to shift the Vijayanagar Bus Terminus to Velachery MRTS station. MTC is also considering the request from commuters of southern suburb of Chennai to start operating bus services from the south side of the railway station. The request is to divert some buses that are currently being operated till the Vijayanagar Bus Terminus through the service road on the southern side of the Velachery flyover.

The move of Vijayanagar Bus Terminus to MRTS station will be a blessing to many of the commuters who currently have to take a long walk through the station road to reach the station from the bus stand. Many commuters from suburbs like Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Medavakkam and Keelkattalai rely on MRTS. Moreover, the vehicles starting from the Vijayanagar bus terminus are caught in traffic jams at the Vijayanagar traffic signal resulting in waste of time and fuel. This move might also address this issue.

  1. It is a long awaited move. As commuters like me who come from camp road, chitlapakkam to MRTS Velachery, have to walk both ways amidst the crown and erratic, hapazard vehicle movement

  2. A welcome move. Only problem is the bus terminus should be designed to handle traffic in the rainy season / floods.
