Travel faster and better to all southern towns from Chennai

With new stretches of electrified lines, trains can now travel faster than before. The Southern Railways has commissioned a 229km stretch of an electrified railway line that makes travel faster and better for passengers. This line stretches over Villupuram- Cuddalore- Mayiladuthurai- Thanjavur and another line between Mayiladuthrai and Thanjavur.

The entire project was completed at 432 crores and was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will make travel faster between Egmore and Kanyakumari. While previously the trains had to change engines at Villupuram and Trichy to locomotives due to lack of electrical lines, it’s now no longer needed. This new development will not only save 30 minutes of travel time but will also be able to provide smooth travel by accommodating more trains on this route.

After revamping these lines with electric lines, all passenger, express, and goods trains can run on electric lines. Why this step, you’d ask? Firstly, it saves time. Secondly, it provides smooth travel, and third, it saves tons of diesel. As per officials, this step will save around 31,333 liters of diesel a day which will amount to 26 lakhs for both passenger and goods trains. And on the whole, there is a saving of 14.61 lakh fuel cost per day. Having said this, passengers have urged  to let more trains in the route now that the travel time is reduced by close to 30 minutes.
