Traffic Violators in Chennai don’t have to Pay Cash to Cops; Fine to be Paid through Cashless Payment System

The Chennai City Traffic Police, on Thursday, rolled out a cashless payment system for traffic violators to pay fine. Launching the new system, Chennai City Police Commissioner, A.K. Viswanathan said, “We have introduced this to help traffic violators pay their fine without any hassles. If people want to pay the fine in the traditional method, they can do so in mobile courts.” He also added that if anyone pays or accepts cash it will be considered bribe and action will be taken against both the parties.

Chennai City Traffic Police made an elaborate Facebook post detailing the methods to pay the fine amount effective May 10th,2018.

In this “Cashless Payment System” the motorists can pay the fine amount for traffic violations in any one of the following methods….

1. Pay via swipe card
a. Offender can pay fine immediately to the enforcing officer or
any other traffic enforcement officer of chennai by using
their debit / credit card.

2. Pay via SBI online banking
i. Pay Online.
a. Visit to “https://www.onlinesbi.com”.
b. Click “SBI Collect” and choose “New Version”.
c. Check the terms and conditions checkbox and click on
“Proceed” button.
d. Click “Select State” and choose “Tamilnadu” and click
“Select Type” and choose “Govt. Department” then click
on “Go” button.
e. Click “Select Govt. Department” and choose “GREATER
CHENNAI TRAFFIC POLICE”.
f. Click “Select Category” and choose “E-Challan
Payment”. Type your E-Challan Id in the Challan Id text
box and click on “Submit” button. It will show the Challan
details.
g. Enter your Name, Date of birth, Mobile number and Enter
the captcha then Click on “Submit” button. It will redirect
to verification page.
h. Verify you details and click on “Confirm” button. It will
redirect to payment page.
i. Choose one payment option and complete the payment.

ii. Pay using QR Code
a. Scan SBI QR Code which is printed on the E-Challan
slip. It will redirect to the online payment page.
b. Check the terms and conditions checkbox and click on
“Proceed” button.
c. Click “Select Category” and choose “E-Challan
Payment”. Type your E-Challan Id in the Challan Id in the
Challan Id text box and click on “Submit” button. It will
show the Challan details.
d. Enter your name, Date of birth, Mobile number and
Enter the captcha the Click on “Submit” button. It will
redirect to verification page.
e. Verify your details and click on “Confirm” button. It will
redirect to payment page.
f. Choose one payment option and complete the payment.

3. Pay via PayTm
i. Pay by QR Code:
a. Open Paytm app.
b. Choose “Pay” option.
c. Scan the Paytm QR code which is printed on the
E-Challan slip.
d. After Successful scanning, you can see the Challan
details and fine amount. Then check on “Challan 1”
checkbox and Click “Proceed”.
e. Choose a payment method and complete payment.

ii. Pay without QR Code:
a. Open paytm app.
b. Click on “view all” button and select “Challan”.
c. Click “Traffic Authority” and choose “Chennai”.
d. Type your “Vehicle Number”, “Challan Id” in the provided
text boxes and Click on “Proceed” button.
e. It will retrieve Challan details from server and show the
Challan details.
f. Choose “Challan 1” checkbox then click on “Proceed”
button.
g. Choose a payment method and complete payment.

iii. Pay via paytm website:
a. Visit “https://paytm.com/”.
b. Click more and choose “Challan”.
c. Click “Traffic Authority” and choose “Chennai”.
d. Type your “Vehicle Number”, “Challan Id” in the provided
text boxes and Click on “Proceed” button.
e. It will retrieve Challan details from server and show the
Challan details. Click on “Proceed” button to continue.
f. Choose a payment method and complete payment.

4. Pay via Tamilnadu e-Sevai Centers
a. Visit to the nearest e-Sevai center. There are 136 e-Sevai
centers in Chennai City.
b. Inform the vehicle number and Challan id and pay the fine
amount as cash.

5. Pay via Postal Service
a. Visit to the nearest post office.
b. Inform the vehicle number and Challan id and pay the fine
amount as cash.

6. Payment in court
a. E-Challan can be produced in court and fine amount paid in
cash.
b. The receipt for the payment can be presented to any traffic
officer with E-Challan machine to update the payment
details and close the Challan.

Motorists are requested to take a screenshot or printout of the payment receipt generated through the above payment methods and preserve it future reference.
