Police have strengthened the security at Marina and Besant Nagar beaches in view of Pongal Celebrations. People gather at these beaches to celebrate Kaanum Pongal.
The security measures include wrist bands to trace children, barricades and caution boards by the beaches and around 15,000 Police personnel will be deployed across the city. “The bands will have details of their parents, including phone numbers, and it can be received from the police booths set up on both beaches. Wooden barricades and caution boards will be set up, warning the public to not venture deep into the waters,” The New Indian Express reported a police official as saying.
Other security measures include security towers along the beaches, ambulances on stand-by and a temporary control room-cum-police booth at Marina and Besant Nagar.
The cops would be working with professional divers and swimmers to address any emergencies and All Terrain Vehicles have been arranged to do rounds to monitor the crowd.
