In a disappointing turn of events for the city’s cricket fans, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) failed to obtain approval to reopen the sealed stands in MA Chidambaram Stadium and accommodate 12,000 more fans during the India vs Australia ODI today. Despite numerous attempts and requests made by TNCA, Chennai Corporation refused the clearance to reopen the stands which were sealed 4 years ago.

Earlier this month, there was news of a possible reopening of these stands for the first India vs Australia ODI. TNCA officials were reportedly anticipating a clearance order for at least stands I and J and were making adequate preparations. They waited till Saturday afternoon when the disappointing news was confirmed.
