To fight the competition from Ola and Uber, prepaid taxi association and cab operators at Chennai airport have brought down the taxi fares. The move comes months after Ola and Uber has put up kiosks at airport. The Chennai Airport Prepaid Taxi Owners-Drivers Association has reduced the fares by over Rs.50, cab operator, Fast Track has decreased the fares by about 20%. The number of rides cabs and taxi operators are getting per day has reduced with the entry of Ola and uber.
Most of the taxis are Swift Dzire and cab drivers are worried about the maintenance expenses of a sedan with the revenue from reduced fares.
Before the fare-cut, if a passenger took a prepaid taxi from Chennai airport to Adyar, it would have costed him Rs.460 but now it is Rs.400. Similarly, a ride from Chennai airport to Kilpauk that earlier cost Rs.550, is now Rs.500.
