Travelling from Chennai Central to Chennai Airport is going to get easier for Chennaites, as Chennai Metro will connect Chennai Central and Egmore with city’s airport by April.
Metro has begun trial runs between Nehru Park and Chennai Central from Friday, covering a distance of 2.7 km. The trial run exercise is expected to go on for 3 months before the route is open to public.
“The trial runs are being carried out as the signalling and electrification works are complete on this stretch. At present, the finishing works are on and the final coat of paint will be given,” an official told The Hindu.
The existing underground line from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park will be extended as part of the new stretch. The commissioner of Metro Rail Safety will be inspecting lines before it’s thrown open to public.
