This Community Fridge in Chennai serves the hungry free and fresh food

A community fridge has been set up by the road outside the Besant Nagar Tennis Club to ensure that surplus food in households don’t get wasted and go out to people who might need it. The brand new refrigerator was installed on Sunday under the Ayyamittu Unn project by a trust named The Public Foundation. The initiative is to provide free and fresh food to anyone who is hungry.

Adjacent to the refrigerator is a shelf to donate used clothes, books, toys or any usable item. The installation also guidelines what kind of food is accepted and what is not.

The woman behind this free-for-all fridge initiative is Dr Issa Fathima Jasmine, a Chennai based orthodontist. Dr. Issa has spent around Rs.50,000 for setting up the community fridge.

Since its opening on Sunday, Dr. Issa has been receiving overwhelming response from kind hearted Chennaites all over the city.

Let’s keep this fridge stocked up, Chennai – with love and kindness!
