Chennai’s Chetpet Eco-Park to get an Underwater Virtual Reality Centre

Chetpet Eco-Park, Chennai’s favorite boating and fishing facility, is all set to get a virtual reality centre where visitors will get to experience underwater environment.

The visitors will get a front seat view to the underwater world and can discover aquatic wonders. One could observe the underwater life and experience fishes swimming past them, turtles moving around and plants swaying away in water. Visitors could experience all this and more by either walking around or being seated. The work of this underwater ecosystem is in full swing and is expected to be completed in five months. The estimated cost of this facility is Rs.6 crore.

“We will have different programmes, in addition to the underwater world, so we can keep changing. Each programme would perhaps run for 20 to 30 minutes,” The Hindu reported Fisheries Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi  as saying.

The park currently operates between 10 a.m and 7 p.m for visitors and is closed on Tuesday. It currently has boating and fishing facilities that are quite popular as well as amphitheatre and 3D theatre. The authorities look at the aquarium as an added attraction and is expecting to draw more visitors. The land where the park is located belongs to Fisheries department. A parking lot and a restaurant are also under planning. Entry Fee to the park is Rs.25 for adults and Rs.10 for children.
