Chennai Metro Rail Tunnel connecting North Chennai finishes 5 months ahead of deadline

In what is the fastest tunnel building in the city, Chennai Metro Rail tunnel connecting North Chennai got completed on Sunday. The tunnel, built as part of phase I extension project, was completed 5 months ahead of the scheduled time.

The underground line is 1.82 km long and is expected to be operational in 2019 as part of the 9 km extension project from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar.

The underground line will be connecting Theagaraja College and Korukkupet. The soil conditions was the main reason behind completing the tunnel ahead of the deadline.

Chennai Metro Rail took to their facebook page and live telecasted the tunnel breakthrough at Korukkupet station.
