In an attempt to ensure last mile connectivity to commuters, Chennai Metro Rail will soon start operating air-conditioned vans from metro stations to various parts of the city. In the initial phase, CMRL is planning to operate a fleet of 4 fourteen-seater vans from Alandur Metro station to DLF and Porur. This will bring huge relief to the IT employees commuting in this direction.
“We decided to start with Alandur metro station as we received many requests from IT employees working in and around Porur that they were unable to use metro due to lack of connectivity to their offices. The route and charge for these vans is yet to be fixed. However, this is expected to be at around Rs.20.”, a metro official told The Times of India.
A tender has been floated to finalize the operator that can own, operate and maintain the vans. The vans will be made available at every 15 minutes from Alandur station.
Over the years, CMRL has continuously been working on ensuring the last mile connectivity by introducing bicycle and motorcycle rentals, buses and buggy services.
