A database of everything you need to know about Kovil Prasadam in Chennai (the When, the Where, the What)

Chennai has no dearth of temples and our temples churn out some of the most delicious food, which could give even star hotels a run for their money.

Like us, our gods also have their favorite dishes and oh boy, aren’t we glad about it! Because, depending on the deity worshiped, different temples offer different dishes from puliyodarai to sarkarai pongal to brownies and the taste of kovil prasadam can make even an atheist run to the temples.

We did some holy research and what came up, blew our mind. It will blow yours too.

Remember Senthil and his diary in Boys movie? We thought that was a great idea to compile a list of temples and their offerings. Well, that’s precisely what Mr.Ramesh Kumar has done.

Ramesh Kumar, a foodie himself, started compiling his list in 2015 when he landed on a thread discussing kovil prasadam in Where Chennai Eats facebook group. He painstakingly compiled all the information spread across various threads in the group over the years and came up with this database.

Now, that’s what we call dedication and we’re forever indebted!

  19. In most temples there are two sets of places where you can get prasadams. One is a place called Madapalli from where the prasadams are prepared and offered to God as neivedyam. You have to go-to office pay and receive direct from Madapalli. The quality will be very good
The other place is the shop.whete we generally buy and tenders are called or auctioned to contractors who prepare and sell. The quality will be so so because the contractor has to make a profit. This is the reality and you can decide for yourselves
