4 Smart City Projects in Chennai worth Rs.258 Crores get Approval

4 smart city projects got a go-ahead in the Chennai Smart City Ltd. board meeting held on Wednesday. Among the projects that got clearance is a five tonne capacity bio-gas plant that would use water hyacinth to produce fuel and electricity subsequently. The biogas plant that is to be set up at Rs.3 Crores will be fed from 613 acres of water hyacinth spread across water bodies in the city. Water hyacinth will be removed from water bodies, crushed and supplied to the plant.

24×7 piped water supply in T Nagar area and the construction of missing links to the stormwater drains in the shopping hub is yet another project that got clearance. “New pipelines will be laid wherever needed and encrustations – deposits in the pipeline formed over time from corroding walls – that block free flow of water will be removed.” , reported Times of India.

The skywalk connecting T Nagar bus terminus and Mambalam was also approved. The skywalk will be built along the Railway border road and Madley road, connecting T Nagar bus terminus, Mambalam railway station and south Usman road.
