Chennai Metro’s underground stretch opens today

The 7.4 km underground stretch of Chennai Metro Rail limited will be inaugurated today by chief minister, Edappadi Palaniswami and union minister Venkaih Naidu. The underground line connecting Tirumangalam and Nehru park is finally ready for the ride.

This stretch is part of the first phase of Chennai Metro project. The next phase will see its services extending from Nehru park to Central Railway Station and is expected to be completed by year-end.

As per reports, the maximum fare will now increase to Rs.60 for the 17km stretch from Nehru park to Chennai airport.The train would pass through 7 underground stations : Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappa’s college, Kilpauk Medical College and Nehru Park.
