Chennai Metro Phase 2 proposal has been given in-principle approval

 Chief Minister K Palaniswamy announced the approval of Chennai Metro’s phase II proposal in the assembly yesterday. The budget for phase II has been estimated at Rs.85,047 crore.

The second phase of Chennai Metro Rail will be covering 107.55 km and will have three corridors.Tamil Nadu government has approved the project and this has been sent to Centre for its sanction and financial assistance, a statement from the ministry read. The three proposed corridors are — Madhavaram Milk Colony to SIPCOT for 45.77 km (via Padi, Valasaravakkam and Medavakkam), CMBT to Light House for 17.12 km and Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur for a stretch of 44.66 km (via Perambur, Luz, Adyar and ECR). The proposed corridor between Light House and Vadapalani will be extended upto Poonamalle via Vadapalani and Porur.
